At the premiere of the Horst Mandl Memorial in 2021, a total of 9 Olympic participants from Tokyo 2020 were at the start.
Lukas Weißhaidinger (discus throw) completed his last form check in Graz and then brilliantly won the bronze medal in Tokyo! Ivona Dadic (heptathlon) was awarded 8th at the Olympic Games. In Graz she competed against the specialists in the 100m hurdles. Newcomer Susanne Walli (400m) , who surprisingly made it to the semifinals in Tokyo, also obtained the final finish in Graz and won the 200m. Only austrian javelin record holder, Victoria Hudson , had to cancel her start due to a slight back injury.
Nine Jamaican athletes also traveled to the Styrian capital, three of them then traveled directly to Japan.
World and European champion Ramil Guliyev from Turkey was at the start at the Horst Mandl Memorial over 100m and 200m and delivered good races in strong fields.
